Historicity of Several OT Books

Hi – I grew up in a very traditional / fundamentalist Christian background and am working through why I believe what I believe. I have recently come across some scholarship that mentions that the Exodus likely didn’t actually happen and that the Joshua conquests were exaggerated. I can’t shake the feeling that maybe these scholars are right, but it goes against what I was taught with the Old Testament being literal history. Any thoughts?
