Reconnecting with God Through Physical Discipline
Hello everyone, I’m reaching out with a sincere heart, hoping for kind and thoughtful advice. I deeply believe in the Bible and God’s teachings. But for years, I’ve been distant from God, and my past sins weigh heavily on me. I genuinely feel that I deserve a form of physical penance, like spanking (inspired by biblical discipline in Proverbs 23:13-14, which says, “Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. Punish them with the rod and save them from death”), to show my remorse and seek God’s forgiveness, as well as my own spiritual renewal.
I see this as the best path for me because it aligns with my faith and helps me feel I’ve truly atoned. When I was a child, I was disciplined in this way as part of my family traditions, and it taught me accountability and humility. Now, as an adult, I want to apply that same principle to pay for my sins, drawing from those traditions and my understanding of Scripture, where discipline leads to spiritual life. My faith and personal traditions convince me this is correct—it’s a tangible act of devotion that complements God’s grace, not replaces it.
I respect those who believe Jesus’ sacrifice already paid for all sins and that no further penance is needed; I cherish His redemption too. But God gave us free will to express our repentance in ways that feel authentic to our hearts and journeys. This isn’t about earning salvation, but about honoring Him through sincere remorse in a manner that resonates with me. If your views differ, I completely understand and value diverse interpretations of faith.
I’m looking for respectful, Bible-based guidance on how to approach this. Are there churches, groups, or resources (online or in-person) that could help me explore this path in a faithful way? I’d truly appreciate any recommendations or insights from those who understand this desire to reconnect with God, and I need help to atone in the way my faith guides me.
Thank you for reading and for any support you can offer. God bless you all.
