Separation of Church and State Benefits Christianity
Charlie Kirk is no longer with us. It’s tragic and unfair the way he died. But his ideology persists. And even when he was still alive, that was something I could not understand.
I know it’s true that nothing but the blood of Jesus can wash away our sins. Works cannot save us. God’s law cannot save us. Only the grace given to us from Christ’s sacrifice.
So how can secular policy play ANY role in that process? I think it’s delusional to believe that changing any law in America can do anything to prevent sin, even for hot button issues like abortion or LBGTQIA rights.
Think about it: back in the day, everybody had the legal right to an abortion. For Christians, that legal right was moot; they’d never exercise that right because of their faith.
So why aren’t we making it a moot right for as many people as possible? In other words, why isn’t the Gospel being shared instead pushing for legislation? Clearly, it is the more effective route. We all have first-hand experience at how transformative the Gospel is. We’ve heard countless testimonies on the ways people accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. There are patterns if you hear enough of them. “I was reading the Bible, and it was like hearing God’s voice personally calling out to me.” “I sat in on a sermon, and hearing the pastor was like hearing God’s voice personally calling out to me.” “I was hanging out with some Christian friends, and listening to their conversation was like hearing God’s voice personally calling out to me.” What I’ve never heard: “Congress passed a law and it was like hearing God’s voice personally calling out to me.” At best, legislation can give an outward appearance of godly obedience with no foundational relationship behind it. Why deny non-believers the chance of experiencing a personal relationship with God?
Even God Himself saw that His own law did nothing bring us closer to Him. If that’s true for His law, is it not truer for laws instituted by people?
To me, going down a path of political maneuvering suggests a LACK of faith. Either we as Christians don’t care if the rest of America ever experiences the personal relationship with God that we enjoy.
Or we don’t have the true relationship with God that we think we do.
