As a Christian, how do I stop idolizing modern day idols and start getting back right with God?
Hi ladies and gentlemen. I’m a new believer to the subreddit. I am diagnosed with anxiety, autism, and ADHD. I stopped by because I’m trying to cut back from implementing modern day idolatry and start building a relationship with Jesus Christ. Remember that you can’t come into the Father without going through Jesus first. I know that our everyday modern idols are our phones, TVs, computers, laptops, listening to secular music, watching secular movies and TV shows, statues that we humans make out of our own hands, foods that we eat, drinks, companies, vending machines, ice cream trucks, beautiful middle class houses, fancy cars, fancy mansions, clothes, jewelry, fancy rings, fancy suits, million dollar and billion dollar luxury homes, fancy restaurants, video games, games that we play on computers/laptops, social media, Facebook, Instagram, Meta, YouTube, Snapchat, wallpapers, famous trash talking magazines, celebrities, reality TV shows, influencers, politicians, athletes, models, media personalities, designers, brands, fashion, and etc. I really need to cut back from worldly stuff and get back right with God. But I still want to continue my creative hobbies such as paper journaling, art journaling, paper crafting, writing screenplays, short stories, novels, letters, song lyrics, and drawing endless possibilities on notebooks, pocket notebooks, and sketchbooks offscreen while still worshipping Our Creator (The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob). It’s so hard to turn away from these modern day idols. But my problem is that I tend to spend all my days, rely too much on watching TV, being on my phone constantly scrolling, playing games on my laptop, watching YouTube videos and Shorts excessively, which is pulling me away from God. I really need to get myself together and stop daydreaming and procrastinating. How can I stop making excuses, and stay productive offscreen so that I can start going back to God when I need him? I must read my Bible daily and start praying everyday before I implement my hobbies.
