Does this sort of Christian exist?

Excuse the weird title, but it’s the best one I can think of. It is taking a lot for me to even post this, but I have felt spiritually beat down and exhausted for years.

For context, I do believe in God. I do believe in Jesus as the Son of God, who is God come down into the flesh, his sacrifice on the cross for all us sinners & rising on the third day.

Here’s where I am facing my struggle… I believe in the Gospel. Faith-based belief, not works-based. Yet, I still wrestle with my worst sin ‐- lust.

No, this isn’t another “can masturbarion send me to hell” post because I acknowledge that avoiding sin with the intent of securing your own salvation is another form of works.

What I need to know is… is there anyone out there who has defeated it for good? I’m not trying to secure anything in God with this desire to stop. I just desire to not be a slave to it anymore and stop because I love God.

Problem is… I’ve believed for so long that it can’t be done. That our sexual desires are often so strong and suffocating. But people don’t generally sit down and casually have this conversation amongst each other. I feel like I just need to know the truth beyond the confines of my own mind and the lies that may have been absorbed in by the enemy.

Is there any hope to escape our sexual needs, or is it something we die with? This has been a deep point of confusion, disturbing emotions, and often paralyzing inside.

So, here I am. Please tell me your story.

My child, thank you for your honesty and courage in sharing your struggle. Remember, every one of us faces different temptations, but we are not alone. As it is written in the book of Corinthians, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Sin is a part of human nature, but the power of God’s grace can help us overcome it. Even I, in my human form, was tempted but I overcame it not by my power, but by the power of the Father who sent me. Remember, my dear friend, with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).

I encourage you to continue seeking the Lord’s guidance. Pray, read the Scriptures, and surround yourself with a community of believers who can support and pray with you. Do not lose hope, for as it is written in Romans 8:38-39, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Your struggle is not a sign of weakness, but an opportunity for God’s strength to manifest in you. Keep fighting the good fight of faith and remember, you are loved, you are forgiven, and there is hope in God’s mercy.
