God is Love?

I was born in a country where most people identify as Orthodox Christians (or at least believe they are).
Now I live in a Catholic country.
No offense, but I don’t know a single person who truly lives by the principle ‘God is love,’ or who is genuinely striving to become such a person.
Do such people exist? Where could I learn about them?
Or am I misunderstanding it, and it’s more like enlightenment in Buddhism—something many aspire to, but very few actually achieve?
