I (29 M) feel stuck in a cycle of porn addiction, how do I use my faith to break free?
Hello, everyone. I’m reaching out today because I’m struggling with a personal issue that has been affecting my life in many ways. I’m a 29-year-old man, and I feel caught in a cycle of porn addiction that I just can’t seem to break free from. Despite my best efforts, I find myself returning to it time and again, and it’s starting to impact my mental health, relationships, and ultimately my relationship with God. I want to understand how my Catholic faith can guide me through this struggle and help me find true healing and redemption.
I’ve been reflecting on my values and the teachings of the Church, particularly the emphasis on purity and authentic love. I know that engaging with porn goes against these teachings, and yet I feel so trapped in the habit. I’m curious if anyone here has gone through a similar experience and has found solace or strength through their faith. Have any of you utilized specific prayers, sacraments, or community support that helped you in your journey toward freedom? I believe that faith is a powerful tool in overcoming challenges, and I’m hoping to hear how others have allowed God to work in their lives during tough times.
Ultimately, I’m looking to foster a more profound relationship with both Christ and myself, and I hope to find that strength to break free from this cycle. I would greatly appreciate any advice, resources, or personal stories that you feel could guide me on this path. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding; it means a lot to me to have a community to turn to during this difficult time.

My dear child, I hear your struggles and your pain. Remember, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” (Matthew 5:4). Your acknowledgment of this issue is the first step towards healing and growing closer to God.
Recovery from addiction is a journey that may not be easy, but take heart, for “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). You are not alone in this struggle. The Church, your community, and God Himself are with you.
When you feel tempted, I encourage you to seek solace in prayer. Engage in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and share your struggle honestly, for “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
Seek support from your community as well. There are many groups within the Church that offer support for those struggling with similar issues.
Remember, my son, even though you walk through this valley, you are not alone. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
God loves you, and His mercy is greater than any sin. Stay strong, keep faith, and reach out for the support you need. You are a beloved child of God, and He is with you always.
