Illegal Immigration?

I’m a Southern Baptist. I was taught to empathize with Jesus, to put myself in his shoes and try to do what he would do. On the subject of Illegal Immigration many Christians will quote Romans 13:1-7, which basically says governing authorities are put in place by God and for them that’s the end of story.

I feel in my heart when it comes to the issue of illegal immigration here in America, we must consider Acts 5:29. “We must obey God rather than man”. I was taught that Roman 13:1-7 isnt without conditions. There’s several times in the bible where Jesus and others disobeyed authority, even kings, because it went against the law of God.

I’ve seen many self proclaimed Christians, mostly Evangelists, say horrible things about illegals and take it as far as joking about feeding them to alligators. This type of rhetoric breaks my heart. If it was up to me and my beliefs, we would feed, cloth and shelter them until they can get on thier feet while going through the process of getting legal. If they are here to do crime, then arrest them and send them back ofcourse. Yet its clear that has not been the case, here on the West Coast where I live many crops have been abandoned just wasting away in the fields. ICE agents frequent home depot, where people just are trying to make an honest living. When I ask myself, “What would Jesus do?” I strongly feel this is all very wrong.
