Missionaries gave me a Book of Mormon – is this still about the same God?
Hey everyone,
I was out today and a couple of missionaries came up to me. They handed me a copy of The Book of Mormon and talked a little about Jesus. I’ve never really heard about this book before, I mainly know the Bible.
Right now, I’ve been focusing on reading and understanding the Bible (I have the NIV version), and it’s already a lot for me to take in and learn from. So when they gave me this new book, I wasn’t sure how it fits in.
I asked them about the Trinity — God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit being one — but they told me something different. They said it’s actually three separate beings, and that God has a glorified body and created Adam in His image. That kind of threw me off, because I’ve always heard that God doesn’t have a body, only Jesus does.
Another thing that confused me: I asked if the Holy Spirit and the Holy Ghost are the same, but I didn’t get a clear answer.
Honestly, the whole conversation felt a little sus to me. I’m not trying to be disrespectful, but I just want to know: does the Book of Mormon talk about the same God and Jesus as the Bible? Or is this teaching something different?
Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from people who’ve studied both or interacted with LDS missionaries before.
Thanks!
