the letters of paul
Since I have been trying to study the Bible myself, I have some questions about the letters of Paul (and some others), specifically about “commands” to other followers in christianity. I’m not exactly looking for historical context, but other biblical verses that can help answer it. (historical context is also helpful with the inclusion of evidence.)
Here’s my list: – why were women in corinth not allowed to cut their hair but in modern days, women can now cut their hair? (1 Cor 11:5) – why are people not allowed to adorn themselves with costly array or spend on expensive things? (Mat 6:19, 1 Tim 2:9) – what is the context of “modest apparel” in 1 Timothy 2:9 and why does it only apply to women? – in the context of food offered to idols, why does Paul say, “if food is the cause of trouble to my brother, I will give up taking meat forever…” but in a later verse he says, “whatever meat is sold in the public market, take as food without question…” ? (1 Cor 8:13 & 1 Cor 10:25) – is it bad to debate or question the bible? (2 Tim 2:23) – why is it bad for women to rule and good to be in submission to men? (1 Cor 2:11)
That’s currently all the questions I have for now. I may come back to this subreddit for more questions.
Peace and love to all. Thank you.
