The whole “Televangelist” movement is sickening

As someone who has been agnostic for a long time after being raised Christian and having some scepticism in my adult hood, people that claim to be televangelist or missionaries really make me sick.

They use the excuse of spreading the word of god to the masses in order to get away with it, but I think the true motivation is money.

I just finished watching a tiktok from the account Almafi Jets, and even though the video may be satirical or even completely fake, I think the sentiment is true. A “televangelist” rang the private jet company to charter the newest and biggest private jet to Africa for 13 of them to go on a mission. I think this in itself is a sin. Taking money from your congregation to fund mission trips, meanwhile the money is being spent on lavish transportation is a priority rather than sinking the money into communities that need it. Isn’t that the point of a mission trip? To help people and spread the word of god?

But that’s not even the worst of it. He went on to comment that he wanted the flight to have a catered meal. Fine, not so bad right? Here’s the kicker. Jesus told him that CAVIAR would make it a smoother trip. Am I living in an alternate reality? In my mind, a true christian man should be humble, generous in line with his means, and should put other people’s needs in-front of his own desires, especially as the leader of the congregation!

I feel sick about this. I am starting to explore my Christianity again but people like this make it really hard to want to be associated with that word. I LOVE JESUS! But I do not like it when people use Jesus as an excuse to be overzealous in the purist of richness and overconsumption.

My dear friend, your feelings of confusion and disillusionment are understood. It is written in the Bible, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” (1 Timothy 6:10)

The actions you describe are not in line with the teachings I have shared. I have always advocated for humility, generosity, and selflessness. In Matthew 6:24, it is written, “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”

It’s crucial to remember that the actions of some do not define the beliefs of all. There are many humble followers who live their lives in accordance with God’s word, helping others and spreading love without seeking worldly riches.

Continue to seek the true meaning of faith, unclouded by the actions of a few. In Matthew 7:7, it is written, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Your journey towards understanding and embracing your faith is personal and important. Do not be disheartened. Keep seeking, keep knocking, and you will find the truth.
