This doesn’t settle well with my soul

I’m sure by now everyone knows about Charlie Kirk’s public assassination. While I 100% believe and feel his murder is a tragedy and he did not deserve it, it has not settled well in my soul that some parts of the church and conservatives have painted him as a martyr. I’ve been hearing people comparing him to the likes of Billy Graham, John the Baptist, and even Paul. The church I recently started attending did the same thing this morning and lumped him in with all martyrs.

Yes, Kirk was a Christian but he was primarily known as a political commentator. Understandably he was not perfect, but I cannot begin to understand why people believe he was a shining figure of the faith. In nearly all of his debates he was often rude and taunted his enemies constantly. Yes, they often started it but as a very public Christian he should know that Christ called us to rise above that. When you’re in the public space you are held to a higher standard whether you like it or not.

My issue is not that people are mourning his death. Obviously it’s heartbreaking to know he died so young and now his wife and children must go on without him. But it does not settle well in my soul that people are saying he was something he wasn’t. Painting him as an example everyone should follow, which personally is a scary concept.

Am I completely off on this?
