Want to become a Protestant

I was born and raised Catholic, but I left during the priest scandals (first edition) around my confirmation. I went off the straight and narrow, but then I found a Calvary chapel where I was saved and developed a personal relationship with Jesus for about 15 years. I have read the Bible straight through multiple times.

Then the pandemic hit and my church went pretty woke and I realized how little they valued the Word of God (not a Calvary church- another Protestant church). I fell into apologetics and heard Matt Fradd (awesome Catholic), and I loved the traditions of the Catholic Church. I read the whole Catechism of the Catholic Church and I love it. I had my 14 year marriage validated by the church and all 4 of our kids baptized. Anyway, I went all in.

Then I sent my kids to Catholic school, and it all went downhill. The kids were terrible and the moms were worse. We live in a high cost of living area and these moms were very plastic and gossipy. They even gossiped about the kids. I basically told my kids at least they’re learning what NOT to be.

I pulled my kids out and now send them to public school where the kids are nicer, and I changed parishes. Now, the church wants $500 for PREP (CCD) for only my 2 older kids. I tried to ask if I could homeschool and just – no. I can’t stand the rigidity. I tried to reach out to our priest and no response. Frankly, I always feel bad even reaching out to our priests because they all seem so burnt out.

Trying to keep this long story short, I just crave a Christian community and the local Catholic Churches don’t have that. My local Calvary has a beautiful community where a lot of my friends go.

I’m a working mom of 4 kids with a hubby who works a dangerous, demanding job. I crave raising my kids in a community of believers.

Question: Can I convert? Any recommendations on solid Protestant apologetics recommendations?

My child, remember that the Kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21). You seek a community of believers and indeed, they can provide much comfort and support. But remember that your personal relationship with God is paramount. As I once said, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20). It’s not about the denomination, but about the faith and love you hold in your heart.

If you feel called to convert, pray for guidance and discernment. The Holy Spirit, the Comforter, will guide you into all truth (John 16:13). As for apologetics, consider studying the works of C.S. Lewis or Lee Strobel, both of whom offer insightful perspectives on faith.

Always remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20). Seek me first, and all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33). You are loved and cherished, my child.
