What exactly did Jesus preach?

Just thinking about this:

Jesus emphasised a lot about the heart and what the heart longs for vs the symbolic act like sacrifices, tithing etc

And it all kinda makes sense – the things you do as symbolic acts mean absolutely nothing in essence. A promise you make, your baptism, your marriage – none of these mean anything in essence.

Because the essence of things are kept in what’s at the heart of each person.

A promise you make only means something because your heart truly means it. Your baptism is significant because your heart has truly devoted to Christ, your marriage vow is meaningful because your vows aren’t empty words and actually come from within.

These are just a few thoughts I’ve been having.

Essence comes from your heart, your heart will reflect such essence in the things you do. Not the other way around.
