Why is being a Christian so lonely?

Why does it feel like the closer I get to God, the lonelier the path becomes. I’m still relatively new in my walk with Christ, but it seems like it’s a very lonely path. Even when I meet other Christians, they seem to be living their lives for the world and it has somewhat skewed my perception on what being a Christian means. I’m not really sure who to listen to anymore. I’ve already lost contact with a few of my friends and family for being open about my faith, and it seems like I’m being pushed further and further away from them and the world. I’ve sort of reconciled with this in my head because the peace that comes with it is incomparable to anything I’d find here on earth, so that’s why I haven’t lost faith.

But I’m just curious to know if anyone else is going through this or has been through this, and has any advice.
