I recently received Jesus back into my life, thanks to a friend who showed me her unwavering devotion and compassion for Christ and for others like me.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about a future that includes a wife and child, which is now possible through in vitro fertilization (IVF). Some people, however, express that this is against God’s will and, because of it, I won’t be accepted by Christ. That feels both hypocritical and arrogant to me. They don’t get to pick and choose what’s accepted or not, as Matthew 7:5 reminds us, since they do not hold the power of Christ or his disciples.

However, today as I was studying my Bible, I reviewed the scripture many use to condemn same-sex relationships: Romans 1:26. I realized how many people skip the surrounding context and focus only on that verse. After reading the entire chapter, it becomes clear that the passage claims God allows those who deny the clear truth of God to fall into “unnatural” acts because they worship man-made idols, such as images of humans and animals. It says God allows for women and men to defile themselves with each other as a consequence of their primary sin: idolatry and the denial of Him. Many things fall into this realm of “unnatural” acts condemned in the chapter, such as incest (marrying your sibling/child and procreating with them), bestiality, or a person taking a life and then having sexual intercourse as a sacrifice to false gods to acquire material possessions. These are all evil things done by those who choose not to acknowledge and worship Christ. But if one gives glory and thanks to Christ for how powerful yet merciful he is, while loving another who shares the same Godly spirit—someone who was, in my belief, put into my life by God—why would others say this is a sin only because we share the same sex? “Yes, because you can’t procreate,” is a common response. But then, is the man who was injured and can no longer produce sperm an abomination? Is the woman who cannot bear children due to cancer an abomination? I choose to believe Christ would love them and not perceive them as many on this earth would: an abomination. This is often a moot point for many queer individuals today, especially with modern technology allowing for same-sex couples to be fruitful not only in spirit but also in procreation. I don’t worship IVF; I see it as a tool given by God to help fulfill the desire to be fruitful. For me, personally, that feels righteous. This gives me more than enough reason to believe Christ would not abandon me for marrying and having a child with someone who shares the same sex as me. This was a revelation given to me by Jesus, and perhaps this message will help someone else who fears that Christ will abandon or forsake them for being part of the queer community while still loving God. 🌈❤️
