Curious about faith but the “sin of empathy” trend is giving me second thoughts
After being a lifelong atheist I’ve been becoming more interested in revisiting christianity and have been spending some time with the gospel of Luke. My fiancee is a christian and I love them to bits and pieces.
But seeing many religious figures call empathy a sin and for people to judge others more harshly has made me question participating in the American church. It seems like a jarring contrast with actual scripture. I’m not sure I want to throw my lot in with people who think kindness and compassion are wrong.
I want to also throw in that there are a few pastors I admire and have personal experience with their preaching, but they haven’t recorded any of their sermons that touch on this to my knowledge.
I guess I’m curious how people reconcile that/select a church community.
