Would you turn in a family member/close friend for a crime they committed?
I got into a debate with my father about the law and if I believe it is more important than family. Admittedly, If I found out a loved one possessed drugs or stolen items, I would encourage rehab or a way to compensate for the stolen items whether it be returning them or paying the owner back. However, the crimes we were using as examples were mainly murder and r@pe. Of course protecting my family is very important to me, but I also believe in protecting others. If I knew a loved one killed someone out of malice and not self defense, I would turn said loved one into the police or mental hospital depending on if they seemed sane or not. R@pe is an immediate call to the police as well. I thought my father and I would’ve agreed, but he was actually quite angry with my response. He went on about how “blood is more important than man made laws”, but my argument was that these laws are biblical let alone man made. I also can’t help but think about how many more potential victims there would be if I didn’t turn in my loved one. At first I was fairly confident in my morals and beliefs, but this conversation almost made me feel guilty. From a Christian standpoint, what is your opinion on this situation and how would you act?
