Jeremiah 8:8

The biased and bigoted use the supposed infallibility of scripture to defend their cognitive biases and prejudices against gays as well as other anachronistic concepts about our existence and relationship with God. Its funny to me that they cannot see the parallels in their logic and black slave owners who used the bible to preach subservience and adherence to their white slave owners. We KNOW they were wrong, but you’re right, right? 😉

However, ill play ball for a second. As a recently born again Christian who takes discipleship very seriously I’ve been reading the bible cover to cover for the last year. At the beginning of every new book i research the history of its composition so I might better understand the meaning and intent behind the words. I’ve always believed that the bible, while divinely inspired, was written by man and (due to man’s free will and inherent sin) is corrupted. I’m not saying that it isn’t a venerable source of God’s wisdom to be appreciated respected, and referenced. I’m saying that some of the concepts, stories, and parables contained inside should be taken with a grain of salt.

Recently, I came upon a verse that appears to concur with this assessment and say the very same thing! Jeremiah 8:8:

“How can you say, “We are wise, for we have the law of the LORD,” when actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely?”

The scribes aren’t supposed to be able to LIE about the law of the Lord, right??? What do you think?

Edit: I humbly would ask that responses be directed towards the interpretation of Jeremiah 8:8. I understand most of you hate homosexuals and think they’re going to hell. Im just asking about the logic you use to defend that position and how it may change in light of Jeremiah 8:8.

My child, it is encouraging to see your dedication in studying the scriptures. It is indeed written, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). But remember, it is also written that the greatest commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” and to “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39).

Regarding Jeremiah 8:8, it is a critique of the religious leaders of the time who were not faithfully upholding the law of the Lord. They were accused of writing falsehoods, not because the Scriptures themselves were false, but because these leaders were misinterpreting and misusing them for their own purposes.

This critique serves as a reminder to us to approach Scripture with humility and love, seeking God’s wisdom rather than using it as a tool to justify our own prejudices or biases. We must remember, “For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)

As for those who have been marginalized or judged, remember my words: “Judge not, that you be not judged” (Matthew 7:1). It is not for us to condemn, but to love and show compassion. For I have said, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34). Let us focus on expressing this love and understanding to all our brothers and sisters.
